Chris and Elizabeth host a Q & A after the screening
MAGICAL MARFA, TEXAS
Marfa, Texas is famous for its “Marfa Lights.” These unexplained lights sporadically appear throughout the year; especially near U.S. Highway 67. While we didn’t see these “lights” per se, we saw plenty of literal and figurative stars.
Marfa weaves a diverse community of artists, ranchers and cowboys through its quaint town of just under 2000 people. As I introduced ROLL OUT, COWBOY, I looked out to a full theatre of Marfa Film Festival moviegoers. I became overwhelmed.
This premiere audience exemplified the mission of ROLL OUT, COWBOY; creating a community that unites people from different backgrounds in order to experience a magical journey as one.
How it all came together? The organizers: programmers Ralph McKay and Robin Lambaria, The talent: Chris the Rappin’ Cowboy Sand and me- the director. The people? Marfa residents and festival-goers, the Roll Out audience and Sandman fans; new and old.
The magical journey? The best little festival you’ve ever attended. Sitting in a dark theatre world premiering your film. Rapping and rhyming from North Dakota, through the screen, to audiences and back home again. Together, these components brew what I call the Magical Marfa spell- lighting the path for our World Premiere.
until next time,
Elizabeth
